America Rows

What is America Rows?

Created in 2010, America Rows is a nationwide diversity and inclusion initiative aimed at increasing awareness of rowing and introducing the sport of rowing to a diverse group of Americans, specifically the underserved urban youth who otherwise may not have the opportunity to participate in rowing. America Rows programs will provide competitive rowing, personal development and a platform to help combat the urban youth obesity crisis.

How can I get access to more information about America Rows?

What is the America Rows Affiliate Program?

The America Rows Affiliate Program is a partnership with USRowing to promote diversity and inclusion in rowing within your rowing community.

How can my organization become an America Rows Affiliate?

It’s easy to become an America Rows Affiliate. Contact Richard Butler, USRowing Inclusion Manager, at Richard@usrowing.org or 609-751-6284.

Can my organization use the name America Rows?

Yes, you can use the America Rows name and logo if you signed the America Rows Pledge or if you host an America Rows event. 

What is the America Rows Pledge?

The America Rows Inclusion Pledge is a public commitment by individuals and rowing organizations to take measurable steps to improve diversity within the sport of rowing. Each organization will be able to set its own agenda, i.e. create a rowing community that reflects the diversity of its community.

The pledge will be renewed each year based on the organization supplying progress information that was established the previous year by the organization. All participating organizations will be permitted to use the America Rows logo on their websites and printed materials. The organizations that take the pledge will also be listed on the USRowing website as an organization that promotes and supports diversity in rowing. http://www.usrowing.org/Libraries/America_Rows/AmericaRowsPledge.sflb.ashx.

Why should I become an America Rows Affiliate?

As an affiliate, your organization can make a difference within your local community and the rowing community. Some benefits of partnering with USRowing:

  • You will become part of a national diversity and inclusion movement to diversify the sport of rowing.
  • Locally, you will bring more awareness to your organization and rowing.
  • By getting underserved and underrepresented youth involved in rowing, you will be helping youth become more fit, thus helping combat the national youth obesity crisis.
  • USRowing will provide support and diversity consultation to existing and emerging community outreach programs.
  • You will increase your ability to solicit funding in your community and provide rowing for youth who are economically disadvantaged.
  • Your organization will be mentioned in America Rows and USRowing’s ongoing public relations and marketing campaign.
  • You will receive an America Rows Promotional Kit.
  • You will be able to participate in invitation-only diversity, inclusion and community outreach programs and events.
  • Your organization will join hundreds of other rowing programs that made a commitment to diversify rowing.

Can I use sponsors for funding my local America Rows program?

Yes, America Rows Affiliates can solicit for sponsorship, grants and foundation money.

Will an America Rows Affiliate be able to solicit funding from USRowing?

USRowing is currently not directly funding individual programs, but by participating in the first phase of America Rows, you will be eligible to apply for future grants and sponsorship when funding becomes available.
