Letter to Referees Regarding Membership Dues Reduction

Dear Referees,

In January, the Referee Task Force submitted a membership dues reduction proposal to CEO Glenn Merry and Treasurer Pete Cipollone. Accepting this proposal, the board voted on March 12 to reduce annual dues for referees from $65 to $40.

The reduction in membership dues for referees is an acknowledgment of the generous gifts of time and talent that referees provide on behalf ofUSRowing. This is balanced against the support that referees receive from USRowing and USRowing affiliations, such as the Referee College, the training manual (generously supported by the ECAC) and regional budgets that support referee clinics and recruitment.

This discount is offered to those referees who, in a given year have:

  • Worked five or more regatta days;
  • Attended a clinic; and
  • Successfully completed the RDS.

Discounted membership will apply to the year after these criteria have been met. For 2010, each referee is presumed to have accomplished the above, so the 2011 referee dues will be $40 for all. For those of you who have worked a National Championship in the recent past, your existing waivers will stand. Waivers of membership dues will not be offered for working a National Championship in 2011.

We understand that there is a shortage of clinics in some areas of the country. We are actively working on a remedy for this situation and hope to have that in place for the 2012 regatta year (October 1, 2011 – September 30, 2012).

In addition we are working on solutions to make sure that everyone’s data is successfully captured in the RDS.

Regatta season is upon us. When you see us at regattas, or any time you feel like e-mailing or calling, please contact us and let us know what is on your mind. Thank you to the many people who have offered to help. We appreciate your patience and look forward to working with you soon.

Best regards,

Referee Task Force
